Dialogue in Scratch
Scratch will leave a speech (or thought) bubble up on-screen forever if you don’t use a timed speech block, but I’ve discovered that you can clear a bubble by using another empty one. This allows simultaneous sound and display so that you can use a function like the above with text like below: The paroleContinue reading “Dialogue in Scratch”
Rider 3000W review
In July last year, I finally bit the bullet and replaced my 50cc scooter. It had been ailing for a while and I’d been spending more and more money on it, but I’d also wanted to go electric for quite some time. I’d done a lot of research and knew I’d be limited to 45Continue reading “Rider 3000W review”
Movie marathon lite
I teach in Bordeaux on Thursday mornings so took the opportunity for a movie splurge. Sur un Fil, directeur Reda Kateb This French film starts off being about an acrobat who falls from a height. She has few other opportunities to earn money so she asks one of the Circus clowns how else she couldContinue reading “Movie marathon lite”
Customising text in Acrobat
The Touchup Text tool in Acrobat is useful for correcting a typo, but if you want to replace a block, it’s better to use the Tools > Comment and Markup > Text Box tool. Clicking it gives you a text cursor icon and clicking will give you a default text box outlined in red. ClickingContinue reading “Customising text in Acrobat”
Editing your keyboard, Windows (10)
Update 231030: A new update adding “∞” I live in France but communicate mainly in English. 2030 ban
I have shamelessly stolen this post from Robert Llewellyn (@bobbyllew) and reworded it slightly to take some of the heat out. The post also applies only to the UK, directly, though I imagine that the points made will resonate around a world faced with the same challenges. He makes a great point in a cogentContinue reading “2030 ban”
Adding a new scanner
We’re very much a Canon family. Our previous all-in-one, the excellent Canon MBP7750 is starting to lose focus, so after many attempts at correcting the problem we’ve replaced it with a Canon TS6350. It doesn’t have as many features as the previous printer, nor does it have as many inks, but it seems okay atContinue reading “Adding a new scanner”
Gone veggie – sort of
I guess I’d be called a flexitarian, I’m not up on the lingo. On the 8th of August, I decided to stop eating meat altogether, with certain conditions. For now, I’m still eating fish – I have a stock of canned sardines that need eating and no one else here really likes them. I alsoContinue reading “Gone veggie – sort of”
